"How do I keep my beautiful suede shoes (or boots) clean?" This is an often-asked question. Here you will find the answer in four easy steps.
Suede shoes are versatile, classy, and (more often than not) super comfortable.
One of the disadvantages of suede shoes, is when they get dirty and need cleaning. You don't want to ruin them by getting them wet, so how do you clean them? There's actually a pretty simple way to do it, you just have to have few basic tools and follow the simple instructions below to get it done.
Here are four easy steps for quickly and effectively cleaning suede boots, shoes, heels and sandals:
- First, use a suede brush to remove any excess dirt from the shoe
- Next, use a eraser/rubber to try and remove the remaining marks
- If a stain still won't budge, try using a washcloth with some white vinegar or rubbing alcohol
- Finish off with a suede protector

Step 1:
If you don't have a suede brush, a clean toothbrush will work just as well. Begin by using light strokes to brush the surface of the shoe to remove loose particles. Just remember to brush with the grain, meaning the same direction the suede naturally sits.
Step 2:
Whether you use a suede eraser or a regular eraser, make sure it is free of any marks before using it on your shoes. Rub the eraser back and forth over any spots on your shoes. If that doesn't seem to work, don't force it - you don't want to go too hard on the suede and risk damaging the shoes.
Step 3:
In order to remove tough stains, take a washcloth and dip the corner of it into a small bowl of vinegar or rubbing alcohol before applying it to the stain. You do not want to soak the suede, just dampen it a bit.
Rub the dampened washcloth against the stain to try to eliminate it. This may take a few tries and some patience. Don't worry about the smell of the vinegar or rubbing alcohol, it will fade over time. Additionally, if you fear you are rubbing the color off of the shoe, it will come back after the shoe dries.
Step 4:
Once the shoe are dry, apply suede protector on the shoes. Please make sure to purchase a high-quality product with good ratings for your suede shoes.
